Titus-news

Titus went in to the vets for a barrage of tests last week and he has been diagnosed with atypical Addison’s Disease. That means his adrenal glands are not producing proper amounts of corticosteroid for his body. Luckily, Titus is only shy of glucocorticoids and only needs to take 2 tiny pills everyday to make him feel like new. He will need to take these pills all his life but they are inexpensive and he swallows them easily when hidden in a bit of food. As you can see, the news didn’t phase him at all… he’s still happy, lovable Titus.

Some of the Addison’s Disease symptoms we noticed with Titus were that he was very skinny but not very interested in food, he had low energy levels and he was panting almost always. After a week on his new treatment, Titus has more energy (although he is rather mellow for a young Golden…okay, except when he goes for a walk…then he has TONS of energy)…

…he pants when he’s super excited or happy but not nearly as much as before….

…he no longer sleep through the whole day and loves to spend hours watching out the window when he can….

…and Titus now has a very healthy appetite and is eating plenty of tasty treats like grilled chicken and salmon. Mini turkey meatballs are his favorite and he does this crazy head twist with excitement when he gets them. It’s the funniest thing, we’ll have to try and get it on video.

  2. I love to hear how tuned in you are to all your dogs. It really is so simple to help them by just paying attention to their behaviour and their reactions. You are such good role models and so very kind. A pleasure to read your blog. Cheers.

  3. The 3rd picture down looks like a movie poster for a heroic dog story :) I’m glad his disease is manageable with medication and that you were able to discover it. He is a beautiful dog!

  4. We do flips just HEARING about mini turkey meatballs – how yummy! We’re so glad Titus got diagnosed and is being treated – it’s great that he’ll feel better now. Titus is lucky to have found such wonderful care, and we’re glad you’re not alone without a dog.

  6. Titus-
So glad they figured out why you were a little down and out. Rescue Angels are good at that – they don’t give up until you are back on your feet.

Sounds like you are on your way to becoming a real dog a again.

My first full day of all dog – I went hiking, swimming and then boating. Of course there was a round of fetch in there too.

I am going to have to get my peeps going on the mini meatballs. They are good at the grilled chicken but meatballs…hmmm sounds delightful.

Life is better on 3 legs than 4.

  7. No need to say is one of the most bootiful golden’s we’ve seen. What a fur colour, what a smile, what a pose! He’s gorgeous. We’re so happy he’s with you:). You guys are the guardian angels of goldens! :)

    Love. And Thank you.

  8. I guess I’m so mad because my best friend, Terra, whose mom found me and placed me in my current happy home crossed the rainbow bridge today from hemangiosarcoma. OMD I am so sad. How can we fight this disease? Is there something my folks can do to help? I know that there’s a link at Paco and Milo’s blog about fighting cancer, but how do you find the right place to help? I’ve lost two good friends in the last two months and wish I could help. Thanks and I still think of Spencer all the time sniff.
    Hugs xo

  9. Our first Golden had Addison’s later in his life at 12. Glad you were there for Titus, he looks like he loves you guys… or the meatball treats!! Looking forward to seeing a video.

  10. Seeing Titus looking out that window on his dog bed, reminded me so much of Spencer. I am sure it does you also. And reading about his diet, the turkey meatballs especially reminded me of the post about how Spencer loved his mini turkey burgers. Bittersweet memories i am sure for both of you. But, seeing that same unconditional love that you give Titus is so heart warming. It must be hard, because I am sure you see a little of Spencer in Titus. I so appreciate all of the love and kindness that you are giving Titus as well as all of the dogs that have come into your lives.

  11. I firmly believe that in this life we are placed where we are needed the most. That precious dog of yours needed you and you were there. Titus is beautiful. As someone who l?ves dogs with a passion, thanks for being there for your dog.

It’s good to know that he’s on the mend and is enjoying his new found vitality and appetite?
