“No more frisbee”. These are the words Kona heard yesterday at the vets.
He began limping a week ago and we took Kona for a check-up. After x-rays, the vet thought maybe it was a sprain, and Kona was to spend a week on rest & relaxation, something he’s pretty good at. When the week was up, Kona was still limping, so it was back for more x-rays and tests.
This time he was diagnosed with bone spurs, extra bony projections that develop along the edges of bone, in his front right ankle (wrist?). It is a form of osteoarthritis and won’t be going away. It’s just part of getting older.
So Kona was put on pain and anti-inflammatory meds, along with a strict regime of no strenuous activity, such as running, jumping and frisbee. Although he’s not thrilled about the no frisbee thing, Kona is now feeling better with his new treatments. He can still go hiking and we’re making up some new games for him to play.
Poor Kona! We hope the pain goes away soon! Can you play new games with the frisbee? Sam is pretty good at playing a short game – he sits or lays about 5 feet away and catches a bunch in a row. Running after them is too hard on him too.
Sam
Thanks Sam! Sorry to hear you have restricted frisbee time too. We’ll try your idea. We like to spin it in front of Kona and he slaps it down with his paw:)
Ok so no more frisbees…. Have your people get you a lot!!! more stuffies!!!
I love my octopus!!!
Dash
Great idea Dash! No dog can have too many stuffies:)
Better to just carry the Frisbee around. Hope you are feeling better again soon.
Thank you NCMountainwoman.
Aw Kona! Sorry to hear this! Hiking with your humans and just fun games, sounds grand. Can imagine there is lots of jumping up for the frisbee games, so take it easy pal. Keep on smiling :)
Sweet hugs,
Sierra Rose
Thanks Sierra Rose! We’re finding new ways to have fun which are much less jumpy than frisbee:)
Aww sad about the frisbee, but on the bright side- SWIMMING! LOTS OF SWIMMING! I’m sure Kona won’t mind the SWIMMING alternative.
We think you’re absolutely right Courtney…much swimming to come:)
