I’ve always loved the big blocky heads of retrievers. Spencer had the classic big block head. When we adopted Kona, I didn’t feel that he was as square. but lately his head actually seems blockier. I attribute this to the way he now carries himself , more confidently. Recently I read a passage in Temple Grandin‘s book “Animals Make Us Human” which really hit home. Her theory that exposure and the proper environment brings out the best in a dog’s nature, has been something I have believed for a long time and Kona is living proof of that.
The bigger the more to do ‘kissy-face’ on. ;)
Indeed it is!
Gorgeous! Augie’s head got blockier after the age of two. Ti’s, I’m afraid, will always look like a puppy’s! :)
Thanks guys! Blocky or not they’re both really super cute:)
Yes! Beautiful photo and we can’t agree more! Kona looks just so lovely – it’s been so long since we’ve seen you guys – know you’re doing well! Sorry we haven’t stopped by more often; lots going on here! Happy weekend!

No worries, we know how hard it can be to get around regularly:) Nice to have you frop by anytime.
What a beautiful boy he is!!!
Angie
Thanks Angie!
Daisy has the blocky head, but Tucker is a pointy headed boy. Maybe because he worries, and pushes up his face and wrinkles his brow? But we love him anyway.
Heidi, Tucker and Daisy.
But worry brows him so cute!
He is a handsome boy!
Sam
Thanks Sam, we think all retrievers are:)
Is it possible that their heads get blockier as they age? Our golden’s head seemed long and narrower, but I’ve noticed, especially in profile, that she seems to be getting more square in the face. They’re such wonderful animals.
I’ve been wondering that as well. They are wonderful aren’t they?
