Bella had a couple of lumps when she came into rescue, which turned out to be mast cell cancer. Because she was a breeder dog, she was slated to be spayed and they removed the lumps at the same time. Now Bella is on the mend. With all her stitches we have dubbed her “Frankenpuppy”. Her stitches are healing nicely and Bella is co-operating by not trying to remove them.
We are starting to see Bella’s true spirit. When rescue dogs arrive at their new homes, foster or forever, it takes them some time to settle into their new routines. Many have never lived in a house or had much human contact so there is much to learn. We always imagined it would be as if you had moved in with a family you never met before…it would take some time to learn about them and their routines before you would feel completely comfortable. Bella is a sweet dog and is starting to come out of her shell. She loves to be petted and will give your hand gentle kisses in return. She loves the company of people and is content to spend hours laying beside us as we work. It’s a lot of fun to she her learning about the world and taking delight in all her new experiences.
Bella has quickly learned to love beds… she runs to the bed when it’s time to sleep, she loves to lounge on a bed, basking in the sunshine during the day. She is also becoming used to people moving around the house in their daily routines. Bella now loves the house and will beeline back to the door after spending time in the yard. Her absolute favorite thing is dinner time and all the goodies that show up in her bowl. She wags her tail vigorously while she eats. It’s quite a sight.
Bella is a very easy dog to be with and is adjusting to her new world very nicely. We are fostering her for the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue.
Having been a foster parent for several dogs, we really appreciate your loving care to so many wonderful Goldens! Thank you for again allowing us all to share in your joyful doggie tales. Still visit Spencer’s blog most every day, as he brings a smile to our faces :)) :))
I agree, I am so pleased to see your new blog. I was just at your Open Shutter website. Beautiful photographs. I, of course, love the ones of Spencer. My heart ached when I read your words. Those beautiful eyes that show only love. Then I see beautiful Bella. How gorgeous is she? Golden eyes see right into our human’s being. My mom told me when she first met me, she felt as though I could see to her very core. It took a little time for her to get used to all of that unadulterated love that we Goldens give. Good to have you back blogging again. But, I will
still go back and visit Spencer.
Love,
Sophie
Oh it is so nice to see a new blog. I will admit, I will miss Spencer’s adventures but leaving it as a tribute is a great idea. And now there is Bella. She is the spitting image of my two golden girl’s!, just less the stitches!!!! I am glad she is recovering with you – I don’t think she could be in a better place right now. I just love how she smiles! She is adorable!
Hats off to you both for being such wonderful and caring individuals!
Big hugs to Bella,
Stephanie, Gracie & Madison
Oh look at those stitches! The poor thing, so glad she is in a loving and caring home. Sounds like she’s really coming around for you. That’s great news! Bella looks like a big old sweetheart :)

Bella´s stitches did impress me, but her smile… oh…

Oh my I was not expecting Bella to look like that! I am so glad that they got all the lumps removed and that pretty coat will grow back in no time. It sounds like she is getting use to being loved and cared for and for that I am just so happy. Shoot if I was a dog I would love to come stay at your house.
She sounds like one special girl and the care you both are giving her….well I can see now wy she is smiling so in the pics! I hope that you all have a wonderful week and thanks so much for the update on Bella!
Oh I have to tell you that I heard from foster girl Sarah’s forever parents and she is doing wonderful. She gets along great with their 12 1/2 year old golden boy too. They love her to pieces and it is an all around great fit. It makes me so happy.
Lots of big warm hugs to you all from all of us!

I’m so glad you’re back at blogging! I miss going to Spencer’s page everyday to find out what was new in his life. The picture of his collar and tennis balls on his bed was very somber, but said so much.
Keep up your great work!
Leah
“B” is for bella and beautiful; they go together. Jubal and Homer both have had mast cell tumors removed and they haven’t had any recurrence. We have lots of pictures of Homer’s stiches/staples. Homer needed to wear a sweatshirt though because he like to lick his incissions. Jubal’s was on his foreleg so it had to be wrapped up like a splint cuz Jubal is a big time licker. Ithas been very interesting watching Sophie evolve from a walrus to an energetic girl. Sophie came to live with us in October when she weighed 132 lbs. She really started to emerge from her shell around Christmas time and now she owns the place and weighs ONLY 101 lbs. Our dad says it’s kinda like watching a new puppy discover itself all over again.
