Today I went for my second treatment of acupuncture as part of my treatment for arthritis and hip dysplasia. This time I was prepared and took my West Paw Eco Nap Bed. It rolls up just like a yoga mat, and I just love it! It makes you feel comfy no matter where you are.
Dr. George starts with my head… I get one needle in the top to relax me and one just above my eyes because he thinks I worry too much, BOL!
Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt at all. Next I get one in each elbow and then my shoulder blades.
Then I get them in my lower back, hips and knees.
After all the tiny needles are in I just relax while Dr. George feeds me treats and I pose for pictures with my silly grin.
After 1/2 an hour all the tiny needles get taken out and I get a shot of Adequan, which is like a super-duper Gluocosimine shot right into my muscle so my body absorbs it faster. Then I get a nice massage and then go home to relax for the rest of the day. I’m looking forward to going to work tomorrow because I feel so good now.
Hey Spenc – that looks so cool. I bet it’s incredibly relaxing. I’m glad it’s making you feel better.
Woofs, Johann
Hi Kris,
Our understanding is that the Adequan compliments the acupuncture treatments and that it takes 6 weeks to “load” as they call it. We are seeing small improvements already. I am very relaxed after treatments for the next day and by the following day I am perkier. We’re hoping to see a little more improvement after the lading time. I’m also on 1500mg a day of glucosamine / chondroitin which I have been taking since I found my current humans. We figure it’s worth a shot because the NSAID’s do have side effects and this doesn’t. We hope Sierra feels better…we old dogs have to keep finding new ways to feel better!

Spencer
Good for you Spencer. We are trying some accupuncture for our almost 13 year old girl Sierra. (Our small town local vet wanted a guinea pig and what better than a mellow lab/old english mix!) Have you humans noticed that that Adequan is making any difference? We’d considered trying that as well since NSAID’s are now out of the picture (a very close call in June with kidney failure and bleeding in the GI tract ended a few years on Deramaxx!) but are still debating since the GlycoFlex has only helped a little. Hope you feel better old man. It’s tough being a Senior doggy some days. Good thing that you have loving humans too!
Hi Spencer! I hope the acupuncture is working wonder for your hips. And the massages – wow, how nice! You deserve it. :o) Lots of hugs and kisses, Eva
Spencer you are such a good boy for being so calm during this. Its so funny that your Dr thinks you worry too much because our vet thinks that Benson (the red Golden) worries too much! we think so too! He always has this worried little look on his face like a bloodhound or something!
Hope you are doing better after your treatments. Thanks for coming to visit us, we were missing you!
Love,
everyone at ThoughtsFurPaws
Looks painful but I’m sure you didn’t feel a single thing. I hope you feel so much better now!
